My Story
Derrick Harris has over 35 years of basketball experience as an International Pro basketball player, basketball trainer, scholastic head coach, & motivational speaker.
Derrick has mentored & positively affected hundreds of kids in the U.S. & Europe with his unique, high-intensity, common-sense & practical solution oriented combined with his humor, wit, & infectious energy allow him to connect with & relate to all people.
Harris, began his basketball career at Waco High School in Waco, Texas. He then continued on to attend Ranger Junior College where he earned Freshman of the Year & Offensive Player of the Year and MVP honors.
Derrick then attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS helping the team advance to a conference 2nd place finish and a trip to playoffs & Sweet 16.
Derrick attended McMurry University in Abilene, TX, where he led the team to a 1st place conference finish resulting in their 2nd consecutive ASC Conference Championship, receiving the ASC MVP and All-Tournament 1st Team Honors.
After his collegiate career, Derrick played professionally in Europe. Germany, Portugal, Slovakia, Croatia, Luxembourg & Mexico. He retired from basketball in 2012 after 11 years.
Harris was Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco, TX, where he coached Blake Dwyer to one of the most decorated players to ever to play at Reicher Catholic High School. Dwyer was named all CENTEX.
Coach Harris was Head Basketball Coach at Bruceville-Eddy High School in Bruceville, TX leading them to the 2nd best win/loss record in school history.
Coach Harris then made his way to Beaumont United in Beaumont, Texas and helped the 3 time consecutive 5A State Champion program add to their historic run by becoming 6A State Runner-up, the 1st year in 6A competition.
Derrick continues his passion for the game through player development, professional basketball training, and coaching. He is the head coach & founder of Flyers Basketball Development Organization based out of Fort Worth Texas, a youth basketball development organization specializing in fundamental skill development & physical, emotional, & spiritual growth.
